IMDB: Emma Thorpe

PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY

Emma Thorpe is an experienced production and casting professional who has built a strong run of consecutive credits across major Australian and international screen productions since 2021. Working across both production office and casting departments, her credits include productions for Netflix, BBC, Warner Bros, Stan, ABC, SBS/NITV, Network 10, Paramount+ and Seven+.

Currently on Breakers (Netflix, 2026) as Production Secretary, Emma has built a reputation as the kind of crew member that Heads of Department and Production Managers can rely on to help keep things running. Her experience spans APOC, Production Secretary and Casting Associate roles across high-end television drama and feature film, giving her a versatility that makes her equally valuable in a production office or casting environment.

Following her work on Reckless, Emma was selected for a 10-week secondment to the BBC Sydney office, working across post-production and broader BBC operations. The opportunity reflects the trust placed in her professionally and gave Emma valuable exposure to production operations beyond principal photography.

With a Bachelor of Arts in Film & Screen Production and Theatre Studies from the University of Notre Dame, Emma began her industry career while still at university, working simultaneously as a Commercial Casting Agent and Screen Acting Coach at Filmbites. That foundation gives her a practical understanding of both production and performance. Her experience allows her to move confidently between talent and production teams, communicating effectively across departments.

KEY STRENGTHS

  • Production office coordination and support (APOC / Production Secretary)
  • Extras casting coordination and agency liaison
  • Actor and talent liaison, with a strong understanding of on-camera performance
  • Experience supporting both production and casting departments
  • Scheduling, travel and logistics coordination
  • Strong understanding of casting processes
  • Experienced across both studio and location-based productions
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent cross-department communication and collaboration
  • Calm and adaptable under pressure

PRODUCTION VALUE

Emma brings a particularly valuable combination of production office experience, casting knowledge and talent-facing experience to a production. Having worked across APOC, Production Secretary and Casting Associate roles, she understands the operational demands of production while also having first-hand knowledge of the casting process and the requirements of performers and agencies.

Her consistent progression through major productions since 2021 demonstrates her ability to step into fast-moving production environments, learn quickly and take on increasing levels of responsibility. She has worked across productions for Netflix, BBC, Warner Bros, Stan, ABC, SBS/NITV, Network 10, Paramount+ and Seven+, giving her experience with different production structures, workflows and expectations.

In the production office, Emma brings strong organisation, communication and coordination skills together with an understanding of how information needs to move between departments. Her experience across studio and location-based productions has involved scheduling, travel and logistics, documentation, crew communication and the day-to-day problem-solving required to keep a production moving.

Her background in casting adds another dimension. Emma understands performers, agents, casting requirements and the practical relationship between talent and production. Before moving into long-form screen production, she worked as both a Commercial Casting Agent and Screen Acting Coach, giving her an understanding of the performer experience as well as the administrative and production requirements surrounding talent. This makes her particularly effective when responsibilities require clear communication between production, casting, agencies and performers.

Following Reckless, Emma was selected for a 10-week secondment to the BBC Sydney office, where she gained additional exposure to post-production and broader BBC operations. That experience extended her understanding beyond the immediate production environment and gave her insight into how work continues through later stages of the production process.

For Production Managers and Heads of Department, Emma offers something increasingly valuable: a crew member who understands more than her immediate role. She can see how production office decisions affect other departments, communicate confidently with a wide range of people and adapt as the needs of a production change.

Her ongoing employment across consecutive productions also reflects the professional qualities that are difficult to capture in a traditional credit list: reliability, adaptability, discretion, attention to detail and the ability to become a trusted part of a production team.
