PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY

Annie Murtagh-Monks is one of Western Australia's most respected screen industry professionals, with over 35 years of experience across casting, performance coaching, and intimacy coordination. As a casting director on more than 40 major film and television productions, she has an exceptional eye for talent, having helped launch the careers of Heath Ledger, Isla Fisher, Melissa George, Emma Booth, and Jai Courtney.

A founding member of the Casting Guild of Australia and the WA Chapter of WIFT (Women in Film & TV), Annie has been instrumental in shaping the screen industry at both a state and national level. She currently serves on the Professional Film Crew of WA executive committee, was Director of Skills & Engagement at FTI (2013–2016), founded PAC Screen Workshops in 1993, and continues to lead PAC Advanced Studio. She has served as a Juror for the International Emmy Awards in 2022, 2023, 2025, and 2026 — one of very few Australians to hold this role across multiple years.

She was named Outstanding Contribution to the Industry at the 2024/2025 WA Screen Awards, and was a joint finalist for Best Casting of a Feature at both the Casting Guild of Australia and AACTA Awards for Runt.

Internationally trained in Intimacy Coordination, Annie works with directors, producers, and stunt teams to create safe, consent-based environments for complex scenes — bringing the same rigour and care to this work as she does to every aspect of her practice. She is a long-standing guest lecturer in Screen Acting at WAAPA and remains deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of performers and filmmakers.

PRODUCTION VALUE

Annie brings over 35 years of casting, coaching, and intimacy coordination experience to a production, having cast more than 40 feature films and television series and helped launch the early careers of Heath Ledger, Isla Fisher, Melissa George, Emma Booth, and Jai Courtney. Her standing as a multi-year International Emmy Awards juror and founding member of the Casting Guild of Australia means productions gain access to a casting eye trusted at the highest levels of the industry, nationally and internationally.

As an Intimacy Coordinator, she brings internationally accredited training to any production handling nudity, simulated sex, or scenes involving culturally diverse or teen cast members, giving directors and producers a structured, consent-based process for complex or sensitive content rather than an improvised one. Her dual capability as both Casting Director and Acting Coach also means she can support performance quality well beyond the casting process itself, working directly with cast through rehearsal and on set when needed. For productions navigating scenes with heightened physical, sexual, or emotional content, Annie offers a rare combination: the casting judgement to get the right people in the room, and the coordination expertise to keep them safe once they're there.
